Two things maketh man: Manners and Knowledge. Manner talks of your character or disposition whilst knowledge speaks volume of the level of your self-awareness. In this Fourth Industrial Revolution the importance of knowledge cannot be overemphasized. Knowledge is relative as it is in the quantum of how much you as a person can acquire as you progress in life.
I have a flair for philosophy, it makes me engage in rational thinking, at times free thinking; this I do in my spare time. Colours in Philosophy’s coat include epistemology, metaphysics, logic, ethics, aesthetics and so on. I wont like to bug you much on that.
But on a lighter note, I want to give a hi-five to epistemology, which prides itself in the study of knowledge. Knowledge, according to Wiki quote, is what is known; the confident understanding of a subject, potentially with the ability to use it for a specific purpose. It is a familiarity with someone or something, which can include facts, information, descriptions, or skills acquired through experience or education. Knowledge from a worldview is the mental construction of reality.
I won’t be guilty of the fallacy of hasty generalizations if I should say no man is fit to live or survive without knowledge. In knowledge is the key to mental strength and power. No wonder God says in the Holy Writ in Hosea 4vs6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” It is lack of knowledge that destroys not ‘too much’ knowledge.
Knowledge acquisition is one step, application is a further step. The latter transcends the former, but the former precedes the latter.
The salient question to ask is: How much do I know of what I think I know? How much have I practiced what I know?
Knowing your onion is being completely aware of your place and space in the area of your calling. Your calling goes beyond your daily routine job, it is what you are made to do that gives you joy, regardless of formal education.
You should rather spend a good time sharpening the axe before cutting the tree than launch into the cutting with a blunt axe. The ‘sharpening’ process is a way of building capacity without supervision in secret which is usually done in isolation. You are doing this in preparation for the future not necessarily for immediate implementation. You are prepared for any opportunity coming up; because, when preparation meets opportunity, success is inevitable.
The cornerstone of any profession is updating your knowledge bank as you go higher in that profession. You must grow daily, because if you don’t grow you must go.
The spiritual factor is key. The divine knowledge transcends all. When you know your Maker you are COMPLETE all round; the consequence of not doing so is a GRIEF to the soul. It’s succinctly spelt out in Daniel 11 vs 32b:
…the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.
Two words are noteworthy: ‘know’ and ‘exploits’. Not just exploits but great exploits. There is a deeper revelation in knowing God, it’s absolutely supernatural and mind blowing. A natural man will not be able to understand how you come about what you know through the revelation knowledge of God. It’s a mystery. You, as a carrier of mystery, become a mystery. When you know your God, you know everything you need to know to fulfill your purpose on earth. Know God!
